Millwall Community Trust hosted its first ever whole day activity enrichment for Conisborough College whole year 8 group on Tuesday.

90 children took part in groups of 15-20 where they enjoyed five different stations throughout the day.

The stations challenged the young people in differing ways and included a Leadership & Teamwork area, Millwall’s Football & Sport section, Millwall Fitness & Physical Activity zone, Millwall Healthy Living station and a Millwall Match Day Media station.

A football match in full Millwall kit also took part for the final part of the day where the Conisborough Yellow Lions took on the Millwall Blues Academy with the latter taking home the trophy after winning 5-4.

During the day the young people also had a special VIP guest for the boxing challenge station in Millwall Community Trust Ambassador and Professional Boxer Chris Kongo who taught the children boxing drills whilst also taking part in the final presentation for winning group on the day.

A Match day media station saw the pupils participate in a pre and post-match press conference, actinng as both players and press., including pitchside stadium tour, photo opportunities and generally experience being a professional footballer and working in the professional football industry, and also took part in a Millwall related specific quiz.

The Healthy living station  gave pupils an opportunity to understand how to make healthy drinks, namely smoothies. They also learned where each ingredient came from, and work out the distances it took to get all these ingredients to Millwall to make the drinks.

The fitness and physical activity station gave young people an opportunity to see what Millwall players would be experiencing now during preseason  which included a Boxing station led by our Chris Kongo - our ambassador and British and World title fighter who gave up his time to help to deliver on the day"

The football and sports station included a crossbar challenge, shooting accuracy competition and rounders actvities.

The last station was leadership and teamwork which saw the pupils  have to help their peers navigate a minefield blindfolded to get their 'transfer fee' at the end and bring it back safely. It also included an Army based challenge where pupils had to rescue Millwall preseason water bottles left on an inaccessible island and  figure out just using ropes how to get the bottles back ready for 1st team training so the first team could rehydrate.

The standout part was the mock first team initiation which saw each House team score points on their groups performance on singing a song that had become their year group anthem. By the end of it the whole year group was singing the their anthem like X factors winners

John Scarborough, Millwall Community Trust Education and Employability Manager said: “First of all congratulations to the Millwall Blues House for winning on what was a very competitive day. It is the first time we have used the whole Lions Centre to support local schools activity and enrichment programmes which saw us create five stations focusing on the key themes the school wanted to get across to their pupils.

“The overall day was a huge success and also included a football tournament which saw prizes given out for that. But the main focus for the day was about teamwork and respecting each other and being aspirational in what they want to achieve in the future .

“Feedback has been excellent and credit to the coaches and Conisborough staff who had to often go out of their comfort zones to create some activities that we would not normally provide on our football and sport holiday camps.”
