Millwall has been a pioneering club in the development of the women’s game. In the 1980s it became one of the first men’s clubs to link with a female affiliate, the Lionesses. The Women’s Team later formed the first female Centre of Excellence in England and contributed a number of players to the England national squad. Famous alumni include Hope Powell, the former England women’s coach. The Lionesses also won the women’s FA Cup in 1991 and 1997.

Millwall’s Girls Football Academy carries on this tradition, operating through the Millwall Community Trust. Part of the FA’s football talent pathway for girls, Millwall Girls Academy, is a programme that aims to create the next generation of top female footballers by offering the opportunity to train and play in an elite development environment.

The club runs teams through three age groups that are open to players in London and the surrounding areas.

Practices are held twice a week at St Paul’s Sports Ground in the shadow of Canary Wharf, with a full set of scheduled fixtures, usually held at the weekend.

The Academy runs teams at the following age groups: Under-12's -Under 14s -Under 16s and Under 18s.
