Millwall Community Trust hosted its Into Industry Women’s Event at The Lions Centre last Thursday, bringing together businesses, local organisations and members of the community as part of the Trust’s Kick Into Employment Job Fair.
The event provided an opportunity for women to connect with employers, explore career opportunities and build valuable relationships, while also using the power of football to support an important local cause.
As part of the event, Wiggett Group and Trail Group went head-to-head in a special women’s charity football match, with both teams coming together to raise vital funds for Family Matters UK.
The match provided a chance for participants to step away from the traditional workplace environment and connect through sport, while raising awareness and much-needed funds for Family Matters UK, a charity supporting survivors of rape, sexual violence and abuse.
The charity match formed part of a wider day focused on employment, empowerment and creating opportunities for women to take their next step, whether that be into work, training or further development.
With businesses and participants coming together at The Lions Centre, the event demonstrated how partnerships between organisations can create meaningful opportunities while also making a positive difference within the community.
Millwall Community Trust would like to thank Wiggett Group and Trail Group for taking part in the charity match and helping to raise vital funds for Family Matters UK, as well as everyone who attended and supported the Into Industry Women’s Event.
The event was another example of how football can bring people together, open doors and help create positive change beyond the pitch.
John Scarborough, MCT’s Employability & Education Manager said: “This was a fantastic addition to our Kick Into Employment Job Fair and a great way to bring people together through football while supporting such an important cause.
“It was brilliant to see Wiggett Group and Trail Group get involved and use the event to raise vital funds for Family Matters UK.
“At Millwall Community Trust, we’re committed to creating opportunities that connect people with employment, while also supporting the wider community, and this match was a great example of how those two things can come together.”
Kate Harris, Culture & Engagement Manager at Wiggett Group said: “It was a fantastic day and a great opportunity to showcase the contribution of women working across the industry. The event brought employers and our local community together, while highlighting employment, training and career progression opportunities available to women.
“Most importantly, it was a brilliant way to raise awareness and support the important work of Family Matters UK.
“A huge well done to all the Wiggett and Trail Group players who for the majority, stepped outside their comfort zones, got involved and showed up on the day. It was fantastic to see everyone come together, support one another and be part of such a positive event.”
Abbie Hamilton, Group Business Development Manager at Trail Group said: “It was fantastic to bring Trail Group and Wiggett Group together for a brilliant evening of football, and even better to see Trail Group come away with the win!
“The result was great, but the real purpose of the event was much bigger than football. We organised the match to raise vital funds for Family Matters UK and to shine a light on the importance of encouraging more women to consider careers within the social housing sector.
“It was brilliant to see so many people come together, support the cause and enjoy some friendly competition. A huge thank you to everyone at Trail Group and Wiggett Group who played, supported and donated. Hopefully this is just the start of more events that bring our sector together while making a positive difference to the community.”
