The Millwall Lionesses continue their historic cup run as the U16 Lionesses booked their place in the quarterfinals of the Girls FA Youth Cup. The U16 Lionesses are not only unbeaten in their last 13 matches but have also won their last 13 games.

Goal scorers Lucy Fitzgerald and Kara Fordjour once again showed their quality with two fine finishes. The pair has also been called up for the U17 England squad who joins Grace Smith, also called up, in the England set up.

Charlotte O’Shea provided a wonderful cross from the right to set up the first goal before Fitzgerald slammed it in on the volley. The build up for the second came from a lovely interplay between Fitzgerald & Onyi Echegini before Fordjour swept it in. However it wasn’t always Millwall’s way as goalkeeper, Simone Elligon pulled off a series of world-class saves to keep a clean sheet.

Yet the Lionesses dominance was clear and were unlucky not get more with Connie Waring hitting the bar in the first minute from the half way line. Freya Bailes, centre-midfield, captained the Lionesses and constantly barked out orders and words of encouragement to fellow teammates as their dominance paid off.

The Lionesses pushed on and were denied by the opposing Essex goalkeeper who kept them in with some incredible saves. Yet as the final push from Millwall’s two marauding full backs Tabby Flynn & Esther Morgan and sub Lucy Gooding proved too much for the opposing team the final whistle had come.

Coaches Dan Logue & Stuart Jones seemed very happy with the result and performance.

Coach Dan Logue said,

“That was a fantastic result with some really stylish football being played. The team came together as a unit and it’s a credit to everyone that they’re on this fantastic 13 game unbeaten run.”

The Lionesses are now 13 games unbeaten with 13 wins.
