Premier League Kicks

Millwall Premier League Kicks is one of the Premier League’s flagship community programmes ran by Millwall Community Trust. The purpose of the programme is to use the power of football and the value of sports participation to engage with hard to reach young people in some of the most high need areas across the country. The programme is currently being delivered by 69 professional football clubs across the country and engages young people in constructive activities, including a wide variety of sports, coaching, educational and personal development sessions.

The Millwall Premier League Kicks programme runs for 48 weeks throughout the school year and holidays, providing free football coaching by DBS checked FA qualified coaches employed by Millwall Community Trust.

Venues of sessions are normally decided by the volume of need for provision in areas within Southwark and Lewisham. Partners such as Youth Services, police and young people themselves are normally consulted before a decision is made on where delivery should take place.

In total there are 20 different weekly Kicks sessions ran through the Millwall Kicks programme.

The Millwall Kicks programme has been running since late 2007 and has since grown from strength to strength, providing weekly football sessions in local ball courts in estates, youth clubs and Leisure centres across the boroughs of Southwark and Lewisham.

Through these weekly football sessions youth work and the mentoring of young people takes place with the end goal of creating opportunities for young people to develop skills and confidence. Furthermore the sessions are aimed at supporting young people to progress into positive pathways such as football teams and volunteering as well as create routes into education, training and employment.

Since the programmes inception in 2007 it has seen a number of its former and current participants make strides in the professional game of football either as academy players or as first team professionals.

The likes of Deji Oshilaja (AFC Wimbledon), Josh Koroma (Huddersfield Town), Jordan Green (Barnsley), Daniel Johnson (Preston North End), Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal), Dominic Samuel (Blackburn Rovers), Deshane Dalling (Queens Park Rangers) have gone on to forge careers in the footballing world after previously attending the programme.

This session is aimed at 8-19 years old and is jointly funded by Sport England.
