Regional Talent Centre

Millwall has been a pioneering club in the development of the women’s game. In the 1980s it became one of the first men’s clubs to link with a female affiliate, the Lionesses. The women’s team later formed the first female Centre of Excellence in England, and contributed a number players to the England national squad. Famous alumni include Hope Powell, the former England women’s coach. The Lionesses also won the women’s FA cup in 1991 and 1997.

Millwall’s Tier 3 Regional Talent Club carries on this tradition, operating through the Millwall Community Trust. Part of the FA’s football talent pathway for girls, Millwall RTC is an FA-licenced programme that aims to create the next generation of top female footballers by offering the opportunity to train and play in an elite development environment.

The club runs teams through three age groups that are open to players in London and the surrounding areas, with squad trials held each June.

Practices are held twice a week at St Paul’s sports ground in the shadow of Canary Wharf, with a full set of scheduled fixtures, usually held at the weekend.

The 15 member squad plays 9 aside games against boys in Southeast London’s Tandridge league. Our girls hit the headlines in 2018, when they became the first female team in the league’s 42 year history to win their age group’s final.

Our 16 member U14 squad plays 11 aside matches against other RTCs, mostly in the southeast, with games divided into three 25 minute periods.

Our 16 member U14 squad plays 11 aside matches against other RTCs, mostly in the southeast, with games divided into two halves of 40 minutes.

Our eldest squad, the U16s play 80 minute matches against other RTCs. They are encouraged to work on their athleticism outside club time and are given help in following healthy lifestyles in addition to their two weekly practices. As the Lionesses First Team develops through its new league, RTC players who have turned 16 are given the opportunity to play with the women.
