Millwall Community Trust Academy Season Gets Underway
It has always been MCT’s ambition to run an Academy programme that not only provides a robust educational offer, which includes BTEC Level 2 and 3 qualifications that can help support students to pursue a career in sports, but just as importantly to establish good quality teams to play competitively, in a variety of different leagues across the south east of England.
This season has seen us achieve that milestone by registering three male sides, who play in the Community and Education Football Alliance League, and the SCL Youth Development League, and for the first time a female side playing in the National Football Youth League.
Collectively players will train twice a week and then once a week in their designated teams, with fixtures taking place every Wednesday.
Players receive first class coaching and development from registered UEFA A and B license coaches with each team playing a maximum of 15 fixtures throughout the season alongside competing in cup fixtures that could lead to them playing across the country.
Academy player Daveeka Gayle said “its’ great to be able to study and play each week”. “The football gives us an extra lift at times and even at this stage of the year has already created amazing team spirit. We all support each other even when we are not playing, does not matter if its’ the men’s’ or ladies’ team we all encourage each other”.
Our Post 16 academy is still open for enrolment until the 19th of October, so if interested please contact Freddie Ruby at [email protected]
